Have you ever struggled with awkward hands, not looking as slim as you would like, or finding yourself simply unphotogenic in your OOTD photos? We’ve all been there, but fret not, we’ve got you covered with 5 tips on how to take the perfect OOTD! Here are some of our favourite tricks to help spruce up and elevate your pictures to the next level to get that perfect #instaworthy shot for your feed!

Tip 1. Perfect your OOTD by … taking Multiple Shots

When taking your OOTD shot, don’t just stop at one. Get your photographer to take multiple shots in order for you to get the best picture. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try out different angles, backgrounds, and poses to find what suits you best. Always remember, no one gets it right on their first try!

If you are an iPhone user, you can try using the “burst mode” function. Simply press and hold the shutter button to get multiple shots. If you are using an iPhone 11, 11 Pro, or 11 Pro Max, slide the shutter button to the left instead.

Tip 2. Don’t Stop Movin’ for that perfect OOTD

Are you getting tired of posing for pictures? We feel you. Instead of falling back on your usual go-to poses, try moving instead. This includes walking, laughing, eating, or anything you are comfortable with! Moving while your picture is taken is a great way to make you appear more relaxed and less awkward.

Also, if you are an iPhone user, we recommend using the “live” function (as seen below) as it’s best for capturing candid and genuine moments.

Tip 3. Find Good Lighting

Lighting is crucial and it can literally make or break your photo. It not only determines the brightness of your picture, but it also sets the tone, mood, and atmosphere. The best time to snap some pictures is during the day where there is plenty of natural lighting.

You can also snap some shots during the Golden Hour (around 5-6pm) when the sun is just about to set to get that glowy and ethereal moody look. Here’s an example of a Golden Hour shot!

Tip 4. Angle Your Arms

Awkward hands and flabby arms are probably everyone’s enemy when it comes to snapping that perfect OOTD. One way to make your arms look slimmer and more toned is to roll them back and away from your body. You can also place one hand on your hip or in your pockets. Whatever you do, just remember to never press your arms against your body as it flattens it out and makes it look bigger.

Tip 5. Shoot from an Upward Angle

This tip goes out to all the petite men and ladies who yearn to be taller. If you want to look deceivingly tall yet still realistic without any photoshopping, try taking your OOTD from an upward angle. This helps to elongate your body as the upward angle creates the impression of added height.

Do remember to angle your face well so as to avoid any unflattering chin shots!
